Uber and Wayve launch supervised autonomous rides in London
Uber began offering rides in Ford Mustang Mach-Es driven by Wayve's AI system anywhere in London except airports, the first autonomous ride-hailing for UK customers. A trained, TfL-licensed driver stays aboard to supervise, so these are not driverless rides yet, and the fleet starts deliberately small.
- Over 140,000 Londoners had opted into autonomous rides in the Uber app before launch.
- Fares are the same as UberX, Uber Electric or Uber Comfort, priced upfront in the app.
- Next: Nissan LEAFs with Wayve's system in Tokyo later in 2026, part of a plan for 12 markets with Uber. Fleet size was not disclosed.
