Tianwen-4 plan: launch September 2029, Jupiter orbit 2035, Uranus flyby 2045
At a UN and China space exploration workshop, Zhu Xinbo, deputy chief designer of the Tianwen-1 Mars orbiter, set out a Callisto-focused Tianwen-4. It would launch in September 2029, fly past Venus in 2030 and Earth in 2031 and 2033, enter Jupiter orbit in December 2035 and then orbit Callisto. The separated probe would pass Uranus in March 2045.
- The plan includes an impactor whose crash the orbiter would watch.
- Engineers were still working on power generation about 800 million km from the Sun.
- Callisto sits outside Jupiter's most intense radiation and may hide an ocean.
