Terran 1 reaches space on its only flight but the upper stage fails to reach orbit
Relativity's Terran 1, built largely by 3D printing, launched March 22, 2023 (after two scrubbed attempts) and reached space but the upper stage failed to reach orbit. Despite passing max-q and stage separation cleanly, it was Terran 1's only flight; Relativity moved development focus to the larger, reusable Terran R.
- Launched 22 March 2023 from Cape Canaveral ('Good Luck, Have Fun' mission); passed max-q and stage separation nominally.
- Upper stage failed to achieve orbital velocity; upper stage failure ended Terran 1 program; Relativity discontinued single-use rocket.
- Relativity pivoted entirely to Terran R—a reusable, larger vehicle with seven Aeon R engines, 216 feet tall, targeting Falcon 9-class lift capability.
