Tata Electronics' Dholera fab to start at 90nm and 55nm nodes; commercial production delayed to mid-2028

Tata ElectronicsDholera Fab

Tata Electronics announced that its Dholera semiconductor fab, built with PSMC, will begin production at 90nm and 55nm technology nodes rather than 28nm as originally planned. Commercial production is now targeted for mid-2028. The conservative starting point allows the team to build manufacturing expertise before advancing to newer nodes; PSMC noted that technology transfer is typically introduced gradually with mature nodes first.

  • Dholera is ₹91,000 crore ($11 billion) investment, India's largest semiconductor manufacturing project.
  • The fab will reach 50,000 wafers per month at full capacity, with plans for second and third fabs in future phases.
  • Starting at 90nm and 55nm is a practical choice: these mature nodes serve broad markets (automotive, industrial, consumer) and allow yields to improve before moving to advanced logic.
