Shield AI X-BAT Autonomous Fighter Reaches $400 Million in Combined Funding
Shield AI announced October 8, 2026, that public and private funding commitments to its X-BAT autonomous fighter program have reached $400 million. The Navy provided a $150 million modification to the existing Other Transaction agreement, matched by $150 million of Shield AI's own capital. An additional $50 million from the Navy and Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), allocated in August, was matched by $50 million of private capital. The funding supports development and flight testing of the AI-piloted vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, which is scheduled to begin testing later in 2026.
