Second pig-to-human heart xenotransplant at University of Maryland Medical Center

Lawrence Faucette, a 58-year-old Navy veteran from Maryland, received a genetically modified pig heart at University of Maryland Medical Center in September 2023 under FDA compassionate-use authorization. Faucette survived six weeks after the transplant, longer than the first recipient, providing additional data on graft function and rejection mechanisms in cardiac xenotransplantation.
