Q.ANT deploys second-generation photonic processors at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre
Q.ANTPhotonic Native Processing Unit
Q.ANT installed second-generation NPUs at LRZ under a German research ministry project on hybrid digital-analog HPC. In LRZ evaluations they showed more than 50x higher matrix-multiplication throughput and 6x lower energy use on typical workloads.
- Installed via standard PCIe beside CPUs and GPUs.
- Uses: climate modelling, real-time medical imaging, fusion materials simulation.
- Q.ANT says doing maths in light removes on-chip heat and cooling needs.
