Pony.ai and Uber plan to test seventh-generation robotaxis in London
Pony.ai says it will begin testing its seventh-generation robotaxis in London "in the coming weeks", ahead of a planned service on Uber's ride-hailing network. The announcement covers testing only: no commercial launch date and no fleet size have been given. It extends the Zagreb model, where Pony.ai supplies the vehicle and self-driving system and a separate operator runs the fleet.
- The London fleet's owner and operator have not been disclosed; the companies say the London service will follow a model similar to Zagreb's.
- Zagreb rides went live in Uber's network about a week after the companies, in August 2026, said they would deploy more than 2,000 robotaxis on European streets.
- Uber has deals with more than 30 autonomous vehicle companies and expects self-driving trips in as many as 15 cities by the end of 2026.
- Uber and Wayve launched a London robotaxi service in September 2026 with a safety driver in every car.
