Pixxel launches its first three Firefly hyperspectral satellites on SpaceX Transporter-12
Bengaluru-based Pixxel launched its first three commercial Fireflies from Vandenberg, calling them the world's highest-resolution hyperspectral constellation and India's first private commercial constellation. They image at 5 m resolution across a 40 km swath and carry their own propulsion, with lifetimes of up to seven years versus two for its demo satellites.
- Three more Fireflies were planned for later in 2025.
- Pixxel had over 60 customers, including India's agriculture ministry, BP and NASA.
- It had raised $95 million, from investors including Google and Lightspeed.
- Pixxel chose SpaceX over ISRO for timing and orbit.
