Pittsburgh airport to trial Skild AI quadruped robots in its airside terminal
Pittsburgh International Airport will trial up to four Skild AI four-legged robots in its Airside Terminal under its xBridge innovation program. The first task is indoor air-quality monitoring, with later work on terminal support such as spotting full bins, detecting spills and watching passenger crowding.
- Up to four autonomous robots and two charging stations will be deployed.
- Phase one collects location-specific air-quality data and alerts staff when readings leave set thresholds.
- Phase two has the robots flag full or nearly full bins, detect spills and monitor passenger crowding.
- Phase three may pair the robots with airborne biological threat detection and test food and drink delivery to airside locations.
- Skild handles installation, mapping, supervision and on-site training for airport staff; each robot works within a defined area with keep-out zones. The start date and length are not stated.
