PHILEAS hybrid-electric demonstrator ground testing begins at Safran
Safran Aircraft Engines began a six-month ground testing campaign for PHILEAS, a full-scale hybrid-electric engine demonstrator equipped with electric machines on the high-pressure and low-pressure shafts. The test program will validate power balancing, power transfer, and power sharing between the engine and aircraft.
- PHILEAS is a full-scale engine demonstrator with electric machines on both shafts.
- Testing runs approximately 300 hours over six months at Safran's Istres facility.
- Test scenarios include power balancing, power transfer, and aircraft power sharing.
- Results directly support the CFM RISE program's hybrid-electric architecture.
- Technology aligned with Airbus NGSA (next-generation single-aisle) aircraft development.
