Pasadena quantum startup Oratomic has raised a $475M Series B that values it at $5.4B, up from $1.5B at its Series A about three months earlier. It is building a large error-corrected quantum computer and CEO Dolev Bluvstein expects it to be ready by 2030.
- ARCH Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Khosla Ventures, Index Ventures, General Catalyst and Bezos Expeditions co-led the round.
- Bluvstein argues a useful machine needs about 10,000 qubits, against a prior industry consensus of about one million.
- The source calls it the largest US Series B ever in quantum technologies, ahead of 62 prior rounds on record.
- Gartner expects more than half of quantum computing startups to close by 2030, and says buyers will reject qubit types that cannot deliver fault-tolerant computing.
