NHTSA grants Nuro the first exemption for a driverless delivery vehicle (R2)
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration granted Nuro the first federal exemption for a fully driverless delivery vehicle, waiving requirements for side mirrors, a windshield, and rear-view camera. The R2 compensates with 360-degree lidar, radar, and camera coverage; the two-year exemption permits production of up to 5,000 vehicles.
