Motif Neurotech wins a UK government award to develop its therapeutic brain-computer interface

Motif NeurotechDOT / Motif XCS System

The UK's Advanced Research and Invention Agency selected Motif Neurotech for a multimillion-dollar award under its Precision Neurotechnologies programme to develop Brain Mesh, a network of millimeter-sized wireless implants that monitor and regulate mental and cognitive states without brain surgery. The award totals approximately $5.9 million, developed in collaboration with UK startup MintNeuro.

  • Implants placed in skull via 20-minute procedure; designed to be cosmetically invisible with cell-type specific stimulation and electrical recording without direct brain contact.
  • Technology targets cognitive, neurological and psychiatric conditions by regulating brain states associated with mood, attention and sleep; minimal-risk implantation approach.
  • Collaboration with MintNeuro to improve specificity of brain stimulation by targeting specific cell types and making implantation simple, rapid and accessible.
