Microsoft unveils Majorana 1, which it calls the first topological qubit processor
Microsoft QuantumMajorana topological qubits
Microsoft unveiled Majorana 1, a chip built on a 'topoconductor' material (indium arsenide + aluminum) designed to host Majorana-based topological qubits, which it expects to be more reliable and easier to scale. It says the Topological Core architecture could reach a million qubits on one chip.
- Topoconductor combines indium arsenide semiconductor and aluminum superconductor; qubits store info as parity (even/odd electron count).
- Measurement-based control uses simple digital pulses; error correction through measurements rather than complex operations.
- Eight topological qubits demonstrated on chip designed for 1M; already 8 on a device housing 1M.
