Medicare sets a $91,032 payment for personal exoskeletons such as the ReWalk
The US Medicare agency revised its April 2024 fee schedule to include a lump-sum payment for personal exoskeletons, including the ReWalk. It is the first time Medicare has set a price for these devices, which had been placed in its brace benefit category. CMS arrived at the figure by averaging prices from Lifeward and other exoskeleton makers.
- Established rate $91,032 in every state; ceiling-to-floor range $109,238 to $81,929.
- Applies to Medicare claims with dates of service on or after April 1, 2024.
- Set through 'gap filling' because no existing billing code described lower-limb exoskeletons.
- An earlier preliminary figure (Nov 2023) was $94,617, based on 2020 market prices.
