MastercardBVNK & stablecoin settlement
Mastercard agreed to acquire London-based BVNK, which builds stablecoin payment infrastructure, for up to $1.8B including $300M in contingent payments, the largest stablecoin acquisition so far. Executives framed it as a way into new markets such as remittances and cross-border business payments, where most flows still begin and end in ordinary money.
- Up to $1.8B, of which $300M depends on future performance.
- BVNK was founded in 2021 and valued at $750M in its December 2024 Series B.
- Coinbase had pursued BVNK for about $2B before talks ended in November 2025.
- Closing was expected by the end of 2026, pending approvals.
