Korea Zinc formally launches Project Crucible in Clarksville; groundbreaking set for 2027

Korea Zinc officially launched its 11 trillion won ($7.4B) Tennessee smelter project, called Project Crucible, at an event in Clarksville with Chairman Choi Yun-beom and Tennessee officials. Groundbreaking is planned for 2027 and production of 13 non-ferrous metals from 2029, after the company bought the local Nyrstar zinc smelter and related firms.

  • Built and run through a US subsidiary, Crucible Metals.
  • Existing Nyrstar smelter infrastructure to be expanded and renovated.
  • Project President: Park Ki-won.
