National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology (QST)JT-60SA
Europe and Japan began systematic upgrades of JT-60SA, installing a new first wall and divertor with carbon-based armor, eight upgraded neutral beam tanks, European-supplied measurement systems, and new in-vessel plasma control coils to prepare the machine for higher-performance experiments.
- New in-vessel coils measure 8 meters in diameter for high-speed plasma position control
- Eight neutral beam injectors upgraded for enhanced heating capability
- Diagnostics include Thomson scattering, X-ray spectrometers and vacuum ultraviolet instruments
