Johnson & Johnson's venture arm makes a strategic investment in Distalmotion

DistalmotionDexter

Johnson & Johnson Innovation (JJDC) invested an undisclosed amount in Distalmotion to back Dexter's expansion into ambulatory surgery centres. J&J runs its own surgical robot programme, so the stake signals interest in a lighter robot for outpatient care.

  • Amount not disclosed; follows the $150M Series G.
  • Dexter then cleared in the US for inguinal hernia repair, gallbladder removal and benign hysterectomy.
  • Those are three of the top five outpatient procedures, over 2.5 million a year in the US (AHRQ 2019 data).
  • More than 3,000 patients treated to date.
