Ford announces Universal EV Platform and $5B investment for affordable electric vehicles
Ford President Jim Farley unveiled the Universal EV Platform and Production System, backed by $5B in investment to build affordable electric vehicles. The first model is a four-door midsize pickup with a target starting price near $30,000 and 2027 launch at Louisville Assembly Plant. The platform uses LFP prismatic batteries (cobalt/nickel-free), 48V electrical system and assembly-tree manufacturing—parallel sub-assembly at end instead of moving line.
