First Solar opens its Alabama module factory

First Solar opened a $1.1 billion, 3.5 GW solar module factory in Lawrence County, Alabama, producing Series 7 thin-film modules with steel sourced within 25 miles and creating over 800 jobs. Combined with its Ohio plants, U.S. capacity reaches about 11 GW once ramped, heading toward 14 GW when a Louisiana factory comes online.
