FDA approves InterStim X, a recharge-free sacral nerve stimulator with a 10+ year battery

Medtronic received FDA approval for InterStim X, the new version of its implant that never needs recharging. A new battery chemistry gives it more than 10 years of life, and up to 15 years at low settings. It joined the rechargeable InterStim Micro in the line-up.

• Fifth-generation battery chemistry; 10+ years without recharging.
• Smartphone-like programmer lets patients choose among 11 therapy settings at home.
• Full-body 1.5 T and 3 T MRI allowed.
• Medtronic said InterStim had treated 350,000 patients over 25 years.
