EIP-8025 'optional execution proofs' put forward for Hegotá, the Ethereum fork after Glamsterdam
Ethereum FoundationL1 zkEVM (proof-checked blocks)
The EIP adds two opt-in node roles: provers that make and gossip a proof for each block, and zkAttesters that verify those proofs. In this first phase attestations still rest on normal re-execution and proofs are a supplementary check, so missing or buggy proofs cannot halt the chain.
- Verification time is roughly constant: a 60M-gas and a 600M-gas block verify in about the same time.
- Average proving is single-digit seconds; a crafted worst-case block can take minutes.
- A multi-client devnet on Lighthouse and Prysm was expected within weeks.
- The EF is commissioning its own on-prem GPU prover cluster for benchmarks.
