E-CNY reaches 3.48 billion transactions and 16.7 trillion yuan in cumulative volume; world's largest live CBDC

China's e-CNY digital yuan achieved 3.48 billion cumulative transactions with a total value of 16.7 trillion yuan as of late 2025, representing explosive growth since 2023. A total of 230 million personal wallets and 18.84 million institutional wallets had been opened across the pilot and expanded program, making e-CNY the largest live central bank digital currency deployment globally.
