Diraq/imec/KU Leuven demonstrate silicon spin qubits with >99% fidelity in commercial 300mm CMOS foundry process

DiraqEquinix Sydney Deployment

Researchers from UNSW, Diraq, imec and KU Leuven demonstrated silicon spin qubits fabricated on 300mm CMOS foundry wafers with >99% fidelity on all operations: single-qubit gates near 99.5%, two-qubit gates exceeding 99.3%, and state preparation/measurement above 99.9%. This is the first demonstration that industry-standard silicon foundry processes can hit error-correction thresholds.

  • Four separate two-qubit devices on one wafer all exceeded 99% fidelity thresholds
  • Controlled-Z gates achieved ~99.3-99.5% fidelity; X/Y rotations ~99.5%; Z rotations ~99.96%
  • Uses 300mm wafer technology identical to consumer chip production, enabling cost and yield leverage
