Circle acquires Informal Systems' Malachite consensus engine to power Arc

Circle acquired Malachite, a fast Byzantine-fault-tolerant consensus engine built by Informal Systems, to power Arc. Malachite remains open source under Apache 2.0, and several Informal Systems engineers joined Circle to develop Arc—a layer-1 blockchain for stablecoin finance with deterministic sub-second finality.

• Malachite is a BFT consensus implementation using Tendermint protocol in a modular design emphasizing correctness and efficiency.
• Open source Apache 2.0 licence ensures continued public access and industry collaboration.
• Integration will bring greater performance, reliability, and security to stablecoin-based payments on Arc.
