CATL launches TENER, world's first field-validated sodium-ion grid storage with 15,000 cycles
CATLTENER Sodium-Ion Grid Storage System
CATL unveiled TENER, a field-validated sodium-ion grid storage system at an international conference in Munich. The system features 15,000 cycles at 25°C with 25-30 year lifespan, operates reliably at -20°C with 92% capacity retention, and offers inherent safety advantages. Modules deliver 30+ MWh each. Deliveries to China begin September 2026, with global expansion in 2027.
- TENER is the world's first field-validated sodium-ion battery storage system proven in real-world conditions before commercial launch.
- 15,000 cycles at 25°C with 25-30 year system lifespan makes TENER economically competitive with lithium-ion for grid storage.
- Wide-temperature operation (-20°C to 45°C) enables deployment in regions where lithium-ion requires active cooling systems.
- CATL has 40 GWh sodium-ion production capacity at Fuding and plans 160 GWh capacity at Jining to supply growing demand.
