Bristol Myers buys Orbital Therapeutics for $1.5B to make CAR-T cells inside the body
BMS agreed to buy Orbital Therapeutics for $1.5B in cash. Orbital's lead drug, OTX-201, uses circular RNA carried in lipid nanoparticles to make CD19 CAR-T cells directly in the patient's body, skipping the lab manufacturing that current CAR-Ts need. It targets B-cell-driven autoimmune diseases.
- Price: $1.5B in cash.
- OTX-201 was in IND-enabling studies, with clinical testing expected in the first half of 2026.
- Adds an in vivo approach next to BMS's lab-made CAR-Ts, Breyanzi and Abecma.
