Bitcoin Core merges BIP-360, introducing quantum-resistant P2MR addresses

Bitcoin Core developers merged BIP-360 on February 11, 2026, introducing Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR). This new address type commits to a script tree without exposing the public key path, protecting against quantum attacks on ECDSA. Users must spend via script leaf with Merkle proof. The proposal was authored by Hunter Beast, Ethan Heilman, and Isabel Foxen Duke.
