At Apsara 2026 Alibaba says Qwen4 is in training, with Qwen4.5 and Qwen5 to reach 5-10T parameters

At its Apsara conference in Hangzhou, Alibaba said Qwen4 is in training and that the later Qwen4.5 and Qwen5 generations will reach 5 to 10 trillion parameters, two to four times the current 2.4-trillion-parameter Qwen3.8-Max. CEO Eddie Wu said the goal is longer, more complex tasks and progress toward superintelligence. No release dates or prices were given.

• Four Qwen4 names were shown: Max, Plus, Flash and 27B, none with dates, prices or weights yet
• Alibaba says Qwen3.8-Max improved itself over 33 cycles in a month, lifting its Artificial Analysis score from 40 to 45
• Also announced: the Zhenwu V900 AI chip (3x its predecessor, 216 GB memory), due Q1 2027
• Wu: Alibaba Cloud's data-centre capacity will pass 20 GW by 2032
