Alibaba releases Qwen3.8, with open weights following on 12 August

Alibaba launched Qwen3.8-Max on its cloud on 3 August and published the weights on 12 August as Qwen3.8-2.4T-A95B: a 2.4-trillion-parameter mixture-of-experts model that uses about 95B parameters per token. It is the first Max-tier Qwen model with open weights. The open release is text-only and narrower than the cloud version.

  • Each token goes to 10 of 512 experts plus one shared expert
  • Open model: 262K-token native context, extendable to about 1M; it always thinks before answering
  • The cloud Qwen3.8-Max adds image input, optional thinking, a 1M default context and built-in tools
  • Reported scores: Terminal Bench 2.1 86.6, SWE-Bench Pro 67.7, GPQA Diamond 92.6
