Ansa Biotechnologies closes $68M Series A to commercialise enzymatic DNA synthesis

Ansa BiotechnologiesEnzymatic long-DNA synthesis

Ansa raised a $68M Series A led by Northpond Ventures to build high-throughput synthesizers and launch a DNA synthesis service. Its method, first published by the founders in Nature Biotechnology in 2018, tethers each nucleotide to a template-independent polymerase so the enzyme adds exactly one base per cycle. The company argues this avoids the harsh chemistry that limits the length and accuracy of conventional DNA synthesis.

  • Brought total private funding to $82M.
  • Investors included RA Capital, Mubadala Capital and Horizons Ventures.
  • Also working with Microsoft on enzymatic reagents for DNA data storage.
