The brief

Analyst view
  • Market leader in hypoglossal nerve stimulation for OSA. Inspire V FDA approved Aug 2024, now 3.0T MRI compatible.
  • PREDICTOR study: BMI and neck circumference predict device success. Enables screening without sleep endoscopy (DISE).
  • Inspire V trials: 44 enrolled, 0 revisions/explants. Implant 20.4% faster than Inspire IV. Mean AHI reduction 25.5 events/hr.

Technical approach

As reported
Airway Detection

Respiration lead senses breathing pattern

Thin lead detects breathing and transmits to neurostimulator. Device learns patient's breathing rhythm during titration.

Synchronized Pulse

Stimulation timed with inhalation

When patient inhales, device sends electrical pulse to hypoglossal nerve. Synchronized to breathing, not continuous.

Tongue Motion

Genioglossus contracts, advancing tongue

Nerve stimulation activates genioglossus muscle. Tongue base moves forward and stiffens, enlarging pharyngeal airway.

Remote Control

Bluetooth remote and smartphone app

Patient turns on before sleep, off upon waking. App tracks sleep data and adherence, shared with clinician.
