The brief
- Founded December 2013 by Joseph DeSimone and others; Sequoia Capital was the first major investor.
- M3 and M3 Max released January 2022 with 4K light engines and improved throughput and surface finish.
- November 2025: Carbon raised $60M to scale large-format platform with support from Sequoia, Silver Lake, adidas.
Technical approach
Continuous liquid interface production
DLS uses a programmable light engine to polymerize photopolymer resin continuously, not layer-by-layer. This produces smooth surfaces and faster print times.
M-series and L1 printers for different scales
M2 for prototyping, M3/M3 Max with 4K light engines for speed and resolution, L1 for serial production.
Rigids, elastomers, dental materials
Proprietary resins optimized for different end-use: rigid parts, flexible elastomers, and dental formulations.
