Waymo renames next-generation robotaxi Ojai based on Zeekr platform
Waymo unveiled Ojai, a purpose-built robotaxi based on a modified Zeekr electric van, featuring the company's new 6th-generation autonomous driving system. The vehicle was designed specifically for passenger service with automatic sliding doors and spacious interior.
- First purpose-built Waymo robotaxi, replacing Jaguar I-PACE platform in newer deployments
- 6th-gen Driver uses 42% fewer sensors (13 cameras vs 29, down from previous generation) while improving range and weather resilience
- Manufacturing takes place at Waymo's facility in Mesa, Arizona
- Initial rollout planned for San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix in early 2026
