Voyager's Griffin-1 lunar lander finishes environmental testing at NASA JPL
Griffin-1, built by Voyager Technologies, completed nearly three months of environmental testing at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, ending in late September 2026. The lander was then shipped to Voyager's Pittsburgh facility for final assembly. It is due to launch in late 2026 on a Falcon Heavy to the Moon's South Pole region.
- Tests included electromagnetic compatibility (July 29), mass properties on a spin table (July 20) and acoustic testing up to 153 decibels (Aug. 12).
- Thermal vacuum cycling ran between 75°C (167°F) and -100°C (-148°F) in JPL's 25-Foot Space Simulator.
- Vibration tests on a shaker table in three directions were also run; the article gives no dates for them.
- The mission carries more than 1,100 pounds (455 kg) of cargo, including 10 payloads from six countries, to Nobile Crater near the lunar South Pole.
- Griffin-1 is part of NASA's CLPS (Commercial Lunar Payload Services) initiative within the Moon Base Program.
