Volvo Cars begins production of EX60 at Torslanda with megacasting technology
Volvo Cars began production of the EX60 at its rebuilt Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, marking the first European automaker in high-volume megacasting on production cars. The EX60 is Volvo's first fully electric vehicle designed, engineered and built entirely in Sweden. Its rear underbody is cast as a single aluminum part using 8,400-tonne presses, replacing approximately 170 individual stamped and welded parts and reducing vehicle weight and assembly complexity.
- First European carmaker to deploy megacasting at volume on production cars.
- EUR 870 million factory modernization supports both megacasting and battery-electric vehicle assembly.
- Single rear-axle casting replaces ~170 parts, reducing weight and assembly labor.
- Early customer deliveries began in mid-2026; orders exceed internal forecasts.
