Toyota breaks ground on its wholly owned Lexus EV plant in Shanghai, 100,000 cars a year from 2027

Construction began on Lexus's electric vehicle plant in Shanghai's Jinshan district, two months after Toyota signed a strategic agreement with the city. It is the second wholly foreign-owned car factory in Shanghai after Tesla's, built for 100,000 vehicles a year, with completion targeted for August 2026 and production in 2027.
