Tesla AI5 chip tapes out on Samsung 2nm and TSMC; mass production expected mid-2027
Tesla completed tape-out of its AI5 chip on Samsung's 2nm-class SF2T process at the Taylor, Texas foundry, and began manufacturing on TSMC's leading-edge nodes. The chip will power Full Self-Driving, Optimus robots and Tesla training clusters, delivering 8x more compute and 9x more memory than the current HW4 chip.
- AI5 chip provides 2,500 TOPS AI performance and 144 GB memory per unit.
- Mass production expected mid-2027 after volume verification by end of 2026.
- Both Samsung and TSMC manufacturing ensures supply redundancy.
- Targeting deployment in vehicles, Optimus robots and training data centers.
