Sussex and Universal Quantum move ion qubits between two chips at 2,424 per second

Universal QuantumModular iQPU trapped-ion computer

A team led by Winfried Hensinger and Sebastian Weidt showed ions carried from one chip module to the next by electric fields, published in Nature Communications. This 'matter-link' is the basis of the company's plan to tile chips into large machines.

  • Transfer rate: 2,424 ions per second between adjacent modules
  • Success rate above 99.999993% per transfer
  • No measurable loss of the qubit's phase coherence
