Studies show Openwater's portable blood flow monitor detects large-vessel strokes better than standard field scales
OpenwaterOpen-Motion stroke detector
A Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases paper showed Open-Motion can be tuned toward catching more large-clot strokes or toward fewer false alarms, to fit transport distances and hospital capabilities. An earlier two-centre study found it correctly flagged 79% of large-vessel occlusions and cleared 84% of patients without one.
- More than 75,000 Americans have large-vessel strokes each year
- Only 713 of 1,941 US stroke centres (37%) offer clot removal
