Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau and Huawei Cloud launch Zhiji, a 3 km regional AI forecast built on Pangu-Weather
Shenzhen's weather bureau and Huawei Cloud put Zhiji into use, a regional model built on Pangu-Weather and fine-tuned on local data. It forecasts temperature, rain and wind five days ahead for Shenzhen and nearby areas at 3 km, against about 25 km for typical global models.
- In a trial from February 2024 it accurately predicted several cold spells.
- The team named precipitation forecasts as the area to improve next.
- Pangu-Weather forecasts had been public on the ECMWF website since August 2023.
