Saronic breaks ground on Port Alpha shipyard in Brownsville, Texas
Saronic broke ground on Port Alpha, its planned shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, on September 30, 2026. The yard is designed to build autonomous and manned vessels at scale, including the Landing Craft Utility boats the US Navy selected Saronic to produce.
- The initial site covers about 800 acres and could grow to about 4,000 acres.
- Saronic aims to hire roughly 10,000 direct workers for welding, machining, robotics, software and naval architecture roles.
- The Navy picked Saronic as one of three companies for Landing Craft Utility vessels, a deal of about $280 million; deliveries are expected to start in late 2028.
- Vice President JD Vance and Texas Governor Greg Abbott attended the ceremony.
- Marauder unmanned vessels are still built at Saronic's Franklin, Louisiana yard, not at Port Alpha.
