Samsung joins Applied Materials' EPIC Center as first founding partner
Samsung became the first founding member of Applied Materials' $5 billion EPIC Center in Silicon Valley, committing to collaborative R&D on advanced patterning, etch and deposition processes for next-generation logic and memory. The 180,000+ sq ft cleanroom facility accelerates chip development by running process and equipment innovation in parallel rather than sequentially.
- EPIC is the largest-ever US investment in semiconductor equipment R&D.
- Samsung joins as primary development partner; TSMC, SK Hynix and Intel added later as founding members.
- Partners collaborate in real time on atomic-scale innovations for advanced node scaling.
- Facility targets halving the traditional 10-15 year development cycle through parallel innovation.
