Rolls-Royce, Avio Aero and IHI finish design reviews of the GCAP engine demonstrator, heading to ground tests
The three-nation engine team gave final approval to the design of an all-new engine demonstrator for GCAP after more than 100 subscale component tests. Parts are being made across the three countries ahead of ground testing. The engine is designed around the electrical power and heat loads of the aircraft's sensors and systems.
- 100+ subscale component tests completed.
- Focus: thermal management, electrical power generation, power and propulsion integration.
- A joint Collaboration Hub in Reading houses the engine teams beside the GCAP Agency and Edgewing.
- The engine work supports more than 9,000 skilled aerospace jobs worldwide.
