planqc selected to lead €21M MAQCS project: Germany's 1,000-qubit quantum computer at LRZ
planqc was selected by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research to lead development of MAQCS (Multicore Atomic Quantum Computing System), a €21M government-funded 1,000-qubit neutral-atom quantum computer. The system will be hosted at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) in Munich and integrated into its HPC infrastructure.
- €21M government contract from German Federal Ministry of Education and Research
- Collaboration with Max-Planck Institute of Quantum Optics and LRZ
- Two independent 1,000-qubit cores for parallel processing capability
- Integration into Munich Quantum Software Stack for both cloud and HPC workflows
- Project aims to advance Germany's quantum computing sovereignty and capabilities
