NVIDIA announces Spectrum-X and Quantum-X co-packaged optics switches for AI data centers

NVIDIASpectrum-X and Quantum-X Photonics

NVIDIA announced Spectrum-X (Ethernet) and Quantum-X (InfiniBand) silicon photonics switches with co-packaged optics for AI data centers. Quantum-X shipped late 2025 with 144 ports at 800Gb/s and 115 Tb/s throughput. Spectrum-X Ethernet scales to 2,048 ports and 400 Tb/s. Both achieve 3.5x power efficiency and 63x better signal integrity vs electrical switches.

  • Quantum-X uses 200 Gb/s SerDes with liquid-cooled silicon photonics modules.
  • Spectrum-X configurations range from 128 to 2,048 ports depending on per-port bandwidth.
  • Co-packaged optics eliminate interface layers between switch silicon and optical modules.
  • Uses 4x fewer lasers through improved optical design.
