NVIDIA announces $20B non-exclusive licence to integrate Groq's LPU technology
NVIDIA licensed Groq's Language Processing Unit technology in a non-exclusive deal announced December 24, 2025. The first NVIDIA product, Groq 3 LPX, combines 256 LPUs in liquid-cooled racks optimized for ultra-low-latency token decoding. Jonathan Ross, Groq's founder, joined NVIDIA; Groq Cloud remains independent.
- Groq 3 LPX: 256 LPUs per rack with 640 Tb/s interconnect for specialize-by-workload inference.
- Designed for decoding phase (one token per cycle), complementing GPU prefill.
- Production deliveries expected in second half of 2026.
- Groq remains independent; GroqCloud service unaffected.
