MiniMax releases M2 open-source model under MIT license

MiniMaxM2.5

MiniMax released the M2 language model, a 230-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts architecture with 10 billion active parameters, under the MIT open-source license. Strong performance on coding tasks and made freely available on Hugging Face, competing with frontier models at a fraction of the cost.

  • 230B total parameters with 10B active per inference; sparse activation reduces compute cost
  • Top performance on coding benchmarks; trained using reinforcement learning on real-world task environments
  • MIT-licensed open weights available on Hugging Face; API access through platform.minimax.io
  • Priced at 1/10th to 1/20th the cost of competing Western frontier models
